Hammarby sjöstadsverk
With IVL/KTH's operating the research and demonstration facility Hammarby Sjöstadsverk from January 2008, the pre-study concerning the takeover of Sjöstadsverket was closed. With Sjöstadsverket there exists now an opportunity to bring together the strong competence in water research available at both the Royal Institute of Technology KTH and IVL Swedish Environmental Institute. There is further a strong interest among companies active in water and environmental technology to cooperate with KTH/IVL to solve important national and international water purification issues and thus contribute to an increase in exports of Swedish knowledge and technology in the water/environmental sector. As an example, ITT Water & Wastewater, which is one of Sweden's leading companies in environmental technology, has entered and actively supported KTH's and IVL's takeover of Hammarby Sjöstadsverk. At present, CHU supports Hammarby Sjöstadsverk with additional financial resources in order to accelerate the development of Hammarby Sjöstadsverk to KTH's and IVL's designated level of the facility. The support is used in ways that will lead to a faster upscaling of activities at Hammarby Sjöstadsverk. This includes:
  • Marketing of Hammarby Sjöstadsverk
  • Planning and design of educational modules
  • The development of EU applications
  • International coordination
  • More R&D applications
  • etc.

CHU Water
The aim of this pre-study was to, in cooperation with actors within the Stockholm region, develop and apply for external grants for i) a programme with focus on further development of technology and methods for evaluation of the environmental impact of hydropower ii) a programme aiming to evaluation of innovative, large-scale and marine-based actions for reduction of available phosphorous in the Baltic Sea.

The pre-study made an inventory of today´s level of knowledge and identified the lack of knowledge as well as actors. Based on this knowledge, two research project proposals were developed in cooperation with regional actors and potential financiers, one in each subject field described above.
